Don’t miss Yugen if you’re in Kyoto. The matcha preparation was quite ceremonial which was fun to watch. If you’re looking for a taste of a tea ceremony without doing the whole thing, this is good option.The menus are only in Japanese but I had no problem using Google Translate to translate to English.If you need more convincing, Yugen was also highly recommended to me by two friends who have matcha brands in the US 😊

Meredith did a great job in sourcing this matcha; it’s legit! If you love heavy roasted/toasty notes you’ll LOVE Okita.It’s super enjoyable as usucha stands up well to milk/lattes too.

Tsuji Rihei is the reason I wish I spent more time in Uji. The menu here is HUGE! You could literally spend a whole week here and not get to try everything.There’s also a small shop area on your way out where you can pick up packaged sweets. The perfect spot to bring back some goodies for your friends/family.

Tea Square Morihan really is a gem. They have more matcha education/exhibits inside but they were sadly closed when I was visiting.The owner speaks English and was super helpful and friendly. She explained the different tea on the menu and showed us different brewing techniques.Because this teahouse is located next to Marukyu Koyamaen’s factory, there is always such a wonderful aroma of tea in the air. 🍃

New Harvest Matcha Review 📝 🍵Every year I get excited for @ippodoteausa new harvest (Shincha) matcha. This is one of a few matchas from Ippodo that is not blended for a consistent taste year to year.This year’s is wonderfully umami focused. I 100% agree with the tasting notes on their website of fresh cream and gazpacho. At $35 you really can’t go wrong.Edit: shame on me from post this after they sold out already. I’m sorry, I’ll make sure to be more timely posting about Ippodo’s future limited drops 🥲
